Editor, The Transcript:

I'm so proud of our mayor, city council, Trey Bates and the developers council for seeing a problem and finding a way to resolve it that is fair to all.

The pre-development ordinance would save citizens, developers and the City of Norman thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours.

We've been involved in protesting the Siena Springs development on east Lindsey in Norman. We met with the developers before this went to the Planning Commission and tried to resolve issues and express our concerns but were met with deaf ears and told it was a done deal. If we would have had a mediator and this ordinance in place, the developers could be building homes right now; we wouldn't have spent thousands in legal fees and on environmental studies and the City of Norman wouldn't be in a lawsuit costing every citizen in Norman money.

The only ones that would lose money if this ordinance is passed would be the developer's attorney who profits on controversy.

Yes, this is NIMBY (not in my backyard), a commonly used term by the developer's attorney. I hope when it happens in your backyard, you will have some sensible help and your concerns will be heard. Please write, call or e-mail your city council representatives and get the pre-development ordinance passed.
