LEBANON, Ohio — Oklahoma’s Anthony Kim continues to live up to his billing as the No. 1 seed in the U.S. Amateur Public Links.

The Sooner junior-to-be won two matches Thursday at Shaker Run Golf Club to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinal round today.

This morning, Kim will tee off at 6:30 against Ryan Keeney, who will be a senior at Nevada-Las Vegas. With a win, Kim will continue his quest for the coveted crown in a semifinal match later in the day.

Kim’s first match Thursday was anything but easy. He was 3 down after six holes to Judd Easterling. The two-time Sooner All-American then refocused his game, carding six birdies and three pars during the last nine holes of play to win going away 4 and 3.

In the next round of the 32 survivors, Kim needed no such rally. In his afternoon contest with Sunghoon Kang, the OU standout claimed a 4-up lead after five holes and cruised to a 5 and 4 victory.

“By the time the second match started, I was on a roll,” Kim said. “My putts were falling and I was in a groove.”

In seven previous appearances in USGA events, Kim had never advanced past the second round.
