The Thunder have a new player in the fold.

Devon Hall, out of Virginia, who fans may recall as the 53rd pick in the 2018 draft, has signed a two-way contract to spend the coming season in Oklahoma City, the organization announced Wednesday.

Hall, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound guard, appeared in 10 games last season with the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder’s G-League affiliate, averaging 7.3 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists over 21.1 minutes of court time.

Before joining the Blue, also during the 2018-19 season, he played for the Cairns Taipans of Australia’s National Basketball League, playing in 28 games and starting 19, averaging 9.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists over 28.9 minutes of court time.

Each NBA team is allowed two two-way contracts. Such contracts let an organization shuttle a player between its G-League affiliate and its NBA team over the course of the season.

Each two-way player may spend up to 45 days with the NBA team — and be paid like a minimum-contract NBA player during those days; significantly more than a typical G-League player — before having to sign an NBA contract to continue with the big team.

A two-way deal can be a precursor to an NBA deal, as it was for Deonte Burton last season, who received a full-fledged minimum NBA deal from the Thunder on March 10.

Hall’s signing gives the Thunder two two-way players, the other being point guard Jawun Evans, out of Oklahoma State.

The Thunder also have 14 players under NBA contract, one less than they’re allowed, though there’s nothing to prevent OKC from entering the season with the spot still open.

Coming out of Virginia, Hall was considered a defensive specialist, able to play both guard positions and possibly small forward.

His was thought to be a disciplined player rather than an explosive player, and one who improved rapidly over four years in the Cavalier program. His senior year, he averaged 11.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists.

Thunder training camp opens the first week of October.

Oklahoma City will play three preseason games beginning Oct. 8 against the Dallas Mavericks in Tulsa. The regular season begins Oct. 23 at Utah.
