Lamar entered Sunday’s game with Oklahoma having already lost its first two games at the Texas-PanAmerican Classic … and proceeded to bang Sooner pitching around like OU’s hurlers were tossing the ball underhanded in a 21-9 victory.

Lamar got to Sooner starter P.J. Sandoval for five earned runs over 21/3 innings and then hit John Brownell up for six hits and seven earned runs in the space of three outs.

Then, after Joseph Hughes shut the Cardinals out for 12/3 innings, they came back for three runs against Nich Conaway, who did not record an out. Will Savage took one for the team, tossing the last three innings and allowing eight hits and four runs.

Third baseman Aaron Reza and first baseman Kevin Smith both had three hits and two RBIs for the Sooners, who banged out 11 hits of their own against three Cardinal pitchers.

The only consolation for the Sooners was their leaving South Texas with a 2-1 record with a three-game weekend set coming up against Western Illinois at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
